Campaign Info

Broadband Provision

Fully supportive of measures to get the whole of Chineham access to faster broadband.

Development

I've witnessed first hand the impact that construction can have and the subsequent changes it brings with it on completion.
Not all developement is bad but I believe that planning decisions should be made at local level, have no desire to see our green areas concreted over and that our infrustructure needs have to be addressed.

Education
I want to see suffcient school places provided locally.

Roads
I believe we have to take the issues surrounding our roads and associated traffic very seriously.

Recycling

I have a good understanding, and am supportive of, recycling - which I believe the borough can still improve upon.

Allotment Provision

I would like to see further such provision made for Chineham.

Independent Candidate
Chineham Ward Borough Council Elections 3rd May 2012
photo pending

I have lived in Chineham for the past nineteen years with my family and have children attending local primary & secondary schools. My husband and I run our business from the ward and for several years I was one of the people behind the Spotlight on Chineham website & it's online community forums.

Local topics that I take a keen interest in are education & youth provision, planning, elderly care and environment issues.

Commenting Locally

Housing Numbers - we all welcomed the removal of the high regional targets however it is still too early for the Conservatives to fanfare the current figure of 594 - it has yet to be examined by a Planning Inspector and could still be raised!

Council Tax - while we have had a freeze other Conservative controlled council's have been able to cut theirs! see my page about council tax here
It is also clear that our borough council is starting to make cuts to our previous community services.

Local Jobs - Most of us agree that Basing View needed some TLC and its location is prime for business purposes. What doesn't want to happen is that improvement to this area leads to decline in the other business parts of Basingstoke.

Network Rail's investment at Gresley Road should be welcomed, especially as a compliment to a regenerated Basing View, but despite the big number of 1000 jobs mentioned in Conservativer campaign literature it should be noted that even Network Rail say that the majority of jobs will be taken by their existing employees as part of their relocation plans.
So employment opportunities for existing Basingstoke residents will be quite less.
