A Taxing Issue
Chineham is a parish and, as such, we residents pay an additional amount for local use within our Council Tax. I think that our Parish Council have done an excellent job in recent years in not only keeping this charge to a minimum but actually providing a reduction in the amount requested.
I am as keen as most people to see that Council Tax increases are kept as low as possible and wonder if a Parish Council can actually make a reduction whether a borough should not be able to either!
We all realise that our belts have been tightened recently and that this will continue to be the case for the foreseeable future but rather than rushing to make cuts we ought to be reviewing basic house-keeping, value for money and high value contracts. For instance why is it that other councils pay less per head for a comparable waste collection?
